About this piece
Thrown on the wheel and left to firm up overnight before the handle is pulled and attached by hand. The ridge along the handle is where the thumb lands — it started as a way to mark our own studio mugs and stayed because it makes a full mug easier to carry.
The glaze is a reactive blue that breaks paler over the rim and pools deep teal where it runs thick. Reactive glazes are never twice the same: the streaking depends on how thickly the glaze went on and where the mug stood in the kiln. The foot is left unglazed so the mug sits on wood without a felt pad.
